2’s Class

2-3 year olds

The 2’s Class is an introductory preschool class for children ages two years to three years. This program meets Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00-11:30 am. The teacher in the 2s class creates a loving, supportive environment for the youngest students who are just beginning to separate from their caregivers, often for the first time. Parents are required to stay and work one day per week, as well as fulfill our other parent participation requirements. The class offers a gentle introduction to the joys of learning, practicing routines and becoming a part of a social group. The class size is kept small to help maintain a peaceful, nurturing environment for beginning students.

The 2’s Class begin their day with free choice indoor play at a variety of learning stations, which consistently include messy art, play dough, a building manipulative, dramatic play, literacy opportunities, and science activities are rotated based on a thematic unit. Following a cooperative clean up time, the children gather for circle time, which encourages music, sharing, movement, and an overall sense of community. A parent-provided group snack is offered sometimes including food from the morning’s cooking activity. After snack, the children enjoy playtime outside with opportunities to develop gross motor skills through trike riding, climbing, running, ball play and gardening. The outdoor area also includes a sensory table with rotating materials, a mud kitchen, easels, a sand pit and building blocks. The children end their day with a goodbye circle time.

In addition to the above offerings, the 2’s class takes two field trips throughout the year, including the pumpkin patch in the fall and Hidden Villa Farm in the spring. They also host class at local parks on occasion. Additional field trips can be planned with the class coordinator.
